What does a web design and development company do?

We plan, design and build websites and web applications: the structure and look of the pages, the code that makes them work, the content tools your team uses, and the technical setup that keeps them fast, secure and findable on search engines.

Why it works

Built for results, not just looks

A good website earns its place in your business.

Fast by design

Lean code, optimised images and sensible hosting choices keep pages loading quickly on any device.

Ready to be found

Clean structure, metadata and structured data give search engines and AI assistants the right signals from day one.

Made to convert

Clear paths to the action you want: enquiries, bookings, sign-ups or purchases.

What you get

  • Custom design for your brand
  • Mobile-first, fast pages
  • SEO-ready structure
  • Content management you can use

Understanding web design and development

What a modern website has to do

A website is no longer a brochure that sits online. It is often the first place a customer meets your business, the page search engines and AI assistants read to describe you, and the engine behind enquiries, bookings and sales. That means it has to load quickly on a phone, make sense within a few seconds, explain what you do in plain language and make the next step obvious.

Good web design therefore starts with the people who will use the site and the job it must do, not with colours and layouts. We define the audience, the main actions you want them to take and the content they need to reach a decision, and then design the structure and visuals around that.

How we design and build

We work in stages you can review. First we agree the structure of the site: which pages exist, how they link together and what each one must achieve. Then we design the key screens for desktop and mobile, refine them with your feedback and only then write the code. Building comes after approval, which avoids expensive rework.

Development uses well-supported technologies chosen for your situation: a content management system when your team will publish often, a headless or custom setup when performance and flexibility matter most, and an e-commerce platform when you sell online. Every build is tested across browsers and devices before launch.

Speed, search and accessibility are built in

We treat performance, search visibility and accessibility as part of the build rather than add-ons. Pages are optimised for speed, headings and metadata describe each page clearly, structured data helps search engines and AI assistants understand your business, and colours, contrast and keyboard behaviour follow accessibility guidelines.

After launch we can monitor speed, search impressions and conversions, and improve the site over time. A website is never really finished: the best ones keep learning from how visitors use them.

How we deliver

How we take care of your project

Every project has two phases: first we define the work together, then we deliver it in short loops until it is finished.

Phase ADefine
  1. A1

    Goals and audience

    • Agree what the site must achieve and for whom
    • Review the current site, analytics and competitors
    • List the pages, features and content needed
    Deliverable: project brief
  2. A2

    Structure and design

    • Map the site structure and key user journeys
    • Design the main templates for desktop and mobile
    • Review and refine with your feedback
    Deliverable: approved designs
  3. A3

    Plan and estimate

    • Split the build into stages with milestones
    • Choose the platform and integrations
    • Confirm timeline, team and cost range
    Deliverable: build plan
Phase BDeliver
B1B2B3B4B5Repeat until finishedin short cycles
  1. B1
    Build

Developers turn approved designs into fast, accessible pages and connect the content tools.

  2. B2
    Test

We check browsers, devices, forms, speed and search basics.

  3. B3
    Launch

We deploy, redirect old addresses and switch on tracking.

  4. B4
    Measure

We watch speed, search and conversions in the first weeks.

  5. B5
    Improve

We fix issues and refine pages based on real use.

What is included

What we build

Common projects.

Company websites

  • Brand and services sites
  • Landing pages for campaigns
  • Multilingual sites

Online stores

  • Catalogues and checkout
  • Payments and shipping rules
  • Inventory and order tools

Web platforms

  • Customer portals and dashboards
  • Booking and membership systems
  • Integrations with your software
Cost

What affects the cost

Every project is quoted individually. These are the main factors.

Factor

Number and type of pages

What it means

A five-page company site and a catalogue with hundreds of products need very different amounts of design and build time.

Factor

Design depth

What it means

Template-based design is faster; fully custom layouts and illustrations take more time and give a more distinctive result.

Factor

Functionality

What it means

Bookings, payments, member areas, search and integrations with other software each add scope.

Factor

Content

What it means

Writing, photography and translation can be supplied by you or produced by us.

Factor

Migration and SEO

What it means

Moving content from an old site and protecting its search rankings takes careful planning.

Illustrative scenario

a local clinic

A clinic has a slow, outdated site that does not show treatments clearly and does not allow online booking. Patients phone the front desk for simple questions and many leave the site before finding the right service.

This is an example to show how we work, not a client story.

  1. 1

We map the patient journey and the questions people ask most.

  2. 2

We design a clear structure with one page per treatment, a booking path and local-search content.

  3. 3

We build a fast mobile-first site with online booking and track bookings and calls.

  4. 4

We review the data after launch and improve the pages that lose visitors.

Avoid

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Common mistake

Starting with the design instead of the goal

Better approach

Agree what the site must achieve first. Visuals are easier to judge once the purpose is clear.

Common mistake

Putting every service on one page

Better approach

Separate pages for separate services rank better and answer visitors’ questions more clearly.

Common mistake

Ignoring mobile

Better approach

Most visits come from phones, so design and test small screens first.

Common mistake

Launching without tracking

Better approach

Without analytics and conversion tracking you cannot tell what is working.

Tools

Technology we work with

We choose tools to fit your goal, not the other way round. Typical choices:

Glossary

Key terms explained

Plain-language definitions of terms you will meet on this kind of project.

CMS
A content management system lets non-developers edit pages, posts and products. WordPress and headless CMS tools are common examples.
Core Web Vitals
Google’s measures of real-world page experience: loading speed, responsiveness and visual stability.
Responsive design
Layouts that adapt to the screen size, so the same site works on phones, tablets and desktops.
Structured data
Code that describes the content of a page, such as a business, product or FAQ, so search engines and AI assistants can read it accurately.

Questions, answered

Short answers to what people ask us most about web design and development.

Ask us directly
How long does a website take?

A typical company site takes a few weeks from approved design to launch. Larger platforms and stores take longer. We give you a schedule once we have agreed the scope.

Will I be able to edit the website myself?

Yes. We set up a content management system and train your team to update pages, posts and products without a developer.

Do you help with SEO?

Every site is built with search in mind, and we offer ongoing SEO if you want to keep growing traffic.

Can you redesign my existing website?

Yes. We review what works today, keep what ranks and improve the rest, with redirects so you do not lose search visibility.

Should I use WordPress, Shopify or a custom build?

WordPress suits content-led sites that your team edits often. Shopify suits stores that want fast setup and built-in payments. A custom build suits unusual requirements or when performance and flexibility matter most. We recommend after learning your goals.

Who owns the website after launch?

You do. Code, design files and content are handed over when the project is paid, and your domain and hosting accounts stay in your name.

Do you provide hosting and maintenance?

We can recommend and set up hosting, and offer maintenance plans covering updates, backups, security checks and small changes.

Can you improve my existing site instead of rebuilding it?

Often yes. We audit speed, structure, content and conversion, then fix what matters most before deciding whether a rebuild is worth it.
